Basics of American Baccarat
American or Nevada Style Baccarat - Also known as Punto Banco
There are different versions of baccarat played around the world and in North America a popular choice is American baccarat or what is commonly called Punto Banco or in some cases Nevada style baccarat.
In american baccarat or what some simply call baccarat played in U.S. casinos, the player placing a bet has a choice of betting on the side of the Player or 'Punto', or the Banker (Banco). He plays against the house which books all bets and pays winning hands. There are no third card drawing options for either the Banker (Banco) or Player (Punto) position.
The bettor may wager on a tie bet. However, this is considered a poor wager that pays off at 8 to 1 and gives the casino an winning percentage of 14.10%. This bet is not offered in other variations of baccarat such as 'chemin de fer' and 'baccarat banque'.
In american baccarat or punto banco, the only decisions a player makes are whether to bet Banker or Player, and how much to wager.
